Finding the right apartment is very similar to entering into a new relationship, both require a lot of effort. You would not just run and select the first person you see. You need time to analyzethatyour interests, goals, and values are a perfect fit. Isn’t it? Hunting for a new apartment is quite similar. There are many things you need to figure out, before signing any agreement or any other document. It doesn’t matter you liked the design or location or any other quality, if it doesn’tfulfilall the requirements, it is not a good fit. The good news is that here I have put together some questions to ask while searching for your dream apartment. How much does it cost to move in?Well, I assume you already know the terms and conditions ofleasebefore stepping into the apartment. For example, how much is your rent, how long the lease is for etc. You should also ask what is the final move in cost. It includes first and last month’s lease and a security deposit. If you are not prepared, the mentioned costs can be quite terrifying for sure. Also, ensure to ask any kind of hidden, move in and move out cost associated. Are there any monthly charges?Apart from just rent, be sure to ask is there any additional monthly charges? These can include facility charges like accessing gym, pool, security charges etc. By asking this question, you will avoid the term ‘I can’t afford’ freak. What are the terms associated with the lease?Generally, you should be aware of when lease begins and ends. But if you don’t, make sure when you can move into the apartment, you know how manyleasearethere. You should know the exact amount you have to pay as rent, what are late rent policies and is there any grace period? Also, know about additional charges for utilities and parking if any. What iscommunityguest policy?Having a friend from other placewith you is perfectly fine. But there are many policies against staying out friend more than 1 or 2 weeks. You have to notify your housing manager if you have long-termguest. Be clear about such policies before signing the final agreement. During my stay in Jaipur, this is one thing which created big problems for me. Finally, I ended up buying a 2 bhk flat in Jaipur to avoid all these hassles. Is thereparkingspace?Does your rent money include the parking charges? If yes, how much of area is allocated for your apartment? In case, parking space is not available, what are the alternatives. Does the apartment hasparking garage or street parking? Parking issues are one of the most common reasonof fight between the tenants. Check out this article for more details. What is the notice period for moving out?Well, it is very important to know what is the time period of providing the prior notice of moving out of the apartment. In case you don’t submitnotice, you could lose your security money. Can I make changes in the apartment?Giving a personal touch to your apartment can end up costing you some difficulties. Ask for what are the possible changes you are allowed tomadeafter movein tothe apartment. What are the pet policies?Every apartment has its own pet policies. Some allow dogs, some allowcator some allow dogs and cats under specific weight and a lot more. Many apartments also have separate policies fordifferentbreed of pets. If your apartment allowspet, enquirewhether they charge upfront or monthly with the rent. Though there are hundreds of things you must analyze before moving into an apartment, these are some basic ones. Do share your experiences with us too.
